Day 28- Grants Zero x2
Nothing to read here - just us being lazy.
We went to breakfast at Dennys (it’s right next door) where we saw hikers (of course we did). I was particularly surprised to see Tesla as I thought he was way ahead. We also briefly chatted with Sin Nombre and met his breakfast buddies, Keebler and … and… damn, I forget the other one!
It’s a little ironic that I’m drawing a blank because I made a joke about how easy it is to remember hiker names vs their real names. I turned to Keebler and said, “like how many Kyles do you think there are out there?” He laughed in surprise and responded, “you got that right, how did you know my name is Kyle?”. (A little weird, yes, but the K in Keebler is what made me say a name that started with K so maybe it’s not that weird.)
After breakfast, we walked a little further to Walmart for a few things, such as a new screen protector for my phone (I cracked mine back at the Ravenswing Brewery on Day 12). I also got an apple because the one I had for breakfast yesterday wasn’t as delicious as I hoped.
After Walmart, as I was making my way to the hotel desk for some paper (we had an important letter to write), I ran into the two German tourists we met when we were checking in to the hotel after the road walk. I loved talking with them again and wish I had been able to do more German learning in the past few weeks. I hope they have a fun trip over here!
Other things we did:
⁃ Organized our food for the next stretch
⁃ Packed our backpacks
⁃ Ate snacks
⁃ I sewed the holes in Nick’s gaiters (I made an honest effort at least)
⁃ Napped
⁃ Attempted to fix my blister (was still not successful at popping it)
⁃ Watched SNL w/Benedict Cumberbatch
⁃ Wrote a letter to our niece Maddie
⁃ Napped
⁃ Soaked in Epsom salts
⁃ Downloaded music, podcasts, and audiobooks (the Wi-Fi here is pretty good)
⁃ Napped
⁃ Showered
Now it’s time for more sleeping. I don’t even feel guilty about it (well, maybe a little) - sleeping on a legit bed is amazing.
