Day 143 - Augusta Zero

Even though we had a day off not that long ago, it was nice having another.  It was particularly nice to get up whenever my body decided she was good and ready (7:30am).

Once up, we made coffee and chatted with Axel and Hungry Cat before we all got into Frank’s truck and rode to the Lazy B.  At Lazy B, Nick and I got out (we were getting breakfast there) and Grasshopper and Dallas got in (they were going back to the trail with Axel and Hungry Cat).  It was nice to see Grasshopper and Dallas again, if only in passing.

After breakfast, we did the usual chores and were done with everything before noon, which was a good feeling.  Just as I was about to take a nap, Frank stopped by and gave us some ground bison meat for dinner tonight and some fresh farm eggs for breakfast tomorrow, which was very kind of him.  He also asked if we were ok with sharing the cabin with a hiker who just got into town, Mishap.  While it would have been nice to have the place to ourselves, there is no way we would ever say no to sharing with another hiker, particularly since all the hotels are booked.  Besides, it was a delight to get to know Mishap.

After Frank left and after chatting with Mishap for a while, I finally took a nap (of course I did, it’s my favorite thing to do these days).  When I woke up, I called my parents for a quick chat.  Unfortunately, just as I started talking with them, I had to work hard at being a woman again; this meant I couldn’t talk long.  I am beyond grateful that it happened during a zero this time and not while on the trail because it was a very rough go - as I was making my way back to the cabin, I collapsed in the soft grass on the front yard for a while because I just couldn’t quite make it inside to lie down.  It’s ridiculous - getting older really sucks sometimes.

After a few hours of suffering, I was back to normal (whatever that means).  Nick grilled the bison burgers for dinner and they were fantastic- since Mishap didn’t want any, we have leftovers to go with our farm fresh eggs tomorrow, which I’m really looking forward to.

I’m not exactly looking forward to hiking again, but we WILL be going through the Bob Marshall Wilderness, which I’ve heard is beautiful, so I suppose maybe I am a little excited.  I’ll just take plenty of Vitamin I.
