Day 133 - Mt. Hood Appears

Start:  0730 - small spring on Warm Springs Indian Reservation (PCT mile 2060)
End: 1830 - near Frog Lake campground
Miles (today): 24.5 (24 PCT, 0.5 off)
Miles (cumulative): 2123 (1919 PCT, 131.5 alternate, 72.5 off)

The sun came out to say hello today, which was nice.  The temperature stayed relatively cool most of the day, too, because we were in a green tunnel.  It's a bit stifling to not be able to see much of the sky, though.

Mt. Hood national forest- we're getting there!

Nick caught up to me as I was washing my socks in a stream. As it was around noon, we decided to eat together, which I enjoyed.

We met up again later in the afternoon and decided to camp at Frog Lake campground.  Even though camping there made the most sense (there aren't any flat spots with water on the trail), I really didn't want to go to campground as it was 0.6 miles off trail.  As the day wore on I really, REALLY didn't want to go there because my feet were screaming at me to stop hiking already.  At least I caught a few glimpses of Mt. Hood through the trees - it made me smile through the discomfort.

I swear, Mount Hood doesn't look real - it's like a painting

I was halfway to the campground when I saw Nick walking towards me.  It turns out they wanted $22 to camp there and it didn't seem worth it, so Nick filled up his water bottles and hiked back towards me.  When I met him on the road be was apologetic, saying he hoped to get to me before I got so far.  He's cute.  :)

We ended up camping at the Highway 26 trailhead, which I think is also a truck rest stop.  Nick is happy as there is a bathroom nearby and I'm happy that I won't have to walk an extra 0.6 miles tomorrow morning.

Nick started another campfire for us to enjoy - he's quite good at starting fires despite everything being wet.  :) He didn't have to roll a log over for us to sit on - this time there was already a makeshift bench set up.  It's rather nice.

the makeshift bench - there was even a backrest!
