Day 132 - Trail and Trees / by Beth Whittington

Last night I made the mistake of touching Nick with my leg as I rolled over.  Nick, who had probably been dreaming about bears, thought I was a bear attacking him.  He woke up trying to kick and fight me, which was hilarious as he was completely out of it and wasn’t a threat to anyone or anything.  That being said, if it HAD been a bear attacking him, his wild screams might have scared it off.  I laughed myself back to sleep.

Today was another blur of trail and trees with a few views sprinkled in for interest.  It wasn’t a bad day by any means, just happily uneventful.

While I had hoped to go further than 23 miles, water sources dictated otherwise. We have been mostly at the mercy of piped spring cattle troughs, which is a water source I didn’t expect to have to rely on in Montana.  However, the water from the pipes is cold and clear so it’s all good - it’s just too bad there aren’t more of them.

We made and ate dinner by the last water source (the piped spring pictured above), using the time it took to rehydrate our meals to purify lots of water.  We’re dry camping tonight and our first good water source tomorrow is 10 miles away, so we needed more than usual.  It was a nice place to sit and relax.
