Day 135 - Helena Zero / by Beth Whittington

Before she left for work this morning, Laurie made us pour over coffee, which was delicious (for future reference, she used 22 grams of coffee to 325 grams of water).  It was wonderful to sit and chat with her while we enjoyed our coffee and I was sad when she had to leave for work.

Just after Laurie left, Gump invited us to breakfast at the No Sweat Café.  Rather than walk there, Nick and I drove Laurie’s vehicle, which she had graciously left for us to use.  Breakfast was delicious and fun (I just love those two!).

After breakfast, Nick and I went back to Laurie’s to get our chores done - go through the resupply, clean filters, and upload blog posts.  I also opened up a surprise care package from Wendy and my Body in Balance Ohana and I couldn’t stop smiling as I went through it.  They sent more Deep Blue, tea, cards, NUUN tablets, and those delicious ginger candies.  Ali, one of the instructors at Body in Balance, also included some beautiful earrings, which I am already wearing because they remind me of Maui and make me happy.

all the packages Laurie graciously let us send to her house - the resupply from Mammoth we missed, a care package from Body in Balance, plus my replacement socks from Darn Tough

After venturing out again to go to the local outfitter (Nick is still looking for replacement pole straps) and to the grocery store for snacks, we spent a lazy afternoon at Laurie’s.  A thunderstorm blew through, and, as it was perfectly timed for a nap,  I happily took one.

There was a bit of worry when Laurie returned from work because we could all smell smoke outside - lightning from the afternoon storm has started a wildfire near town.   Thankfully it was under control quickly, but it was a reminder that fires are still a thing to worry about.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent with Laurie, just hanging out and talking and eating takeout pizza.  Once again, I find myself unwilling to go to bed because I’m having such a great time, but I know I must.  So I am.  :)
