Day 47 - Chimney Creek / by Beth Whittington

Start: 0615 - PCT mile 657
End:  2100 - near Chimney Creek Campground
Miles (today): 24.5 (24 PCT, 0.5 off)
Miles (cumulative): 702.5 (597 PCT, 89.5 alternate, 16 off)

Even though I'm feeling better, I'm not back to 100% - food and water still don't appeal to me and I still feel nauseous after eating.  It's not as bad as before, though, so I know I'm going to be fine.... Eventually.

We stopped for a long lunch.  I'd like to say we were waiting out the heat but the heat wave seems to be over - we were really waiting for me to feel up to hiking again (this fact remained unspoken but we both knew it).

Overall, the day was uneventful.  On top of not being 100% I struggled with knee pain for a bit.  The knee seems ok now (not sure what was up with it) but Nick was waiting for me at the Chimney Creek Campground road a long while.

We had planned to camp and get water at Chimney Creek so walked the 0.2 miles there.  Alas, it turned out the water spigot at the campground was another mile or so away.  Since it was already dark and since we were tired we decided it wasn't worth walking the mile to try to find the water.  Instead, we walked back to the trail, got water from the creek, and are cowboy camping again (although the clouds are a little ominous).  A new hiker-friend, Maverick, decided to do the same thing.

Along the trail:

early start = sunrise
