Day 98 - Apple Pie from Coppertone / by Beth Whittington

Start: 0700 - near Picayune Spring
End: 1830 - PCT mile 1549
Miles (today): 25

It's always a good day when I see Coppertone's blue plate!

Knowing Copertone was a mere 13 miles ahead was huge motivation for the morning and I made it there by noon.  Coppertone never fails to surprise me - even though I knew he was going to be there this time, I didn't expect him to have  an apple pie saved for me!  It's the very same apple pie that he ran up the trail with when trying to find us at Bucks Lake - he saved it for me!  It tasted so good!!!

We spent over an hour at Coppertone's with DW, Happy Trails, and Presente.  It was so relaxing and cool in the shade that I had to force myself to get up and moving again.  I hoped I would be revitalized by the pie and ice cream and banana and apple I consumed, but it turned out to be a rough afternoon.  I felt tired (I should have napped at Coppertone's) and my feet hurt something awful- the trail was pretty rocky and my swollen feet kept cramping.  Like I said, it's always something.  My left ankle is bothering me, too, which I think is from the way the trail is slanted on the ridges.  At least the new shoes seemed to have resolved my calf issue.

With two miles left to go I stopped to get water at a stream and also took the time to soak my feet in the cool water.  It felt so wonderful!  The last two miles to camp weren't too bad after that.

Going to bed early for once!!!

Along the trail:

if you look closely you can see the top of the mountains peeking above the white cloud - it was cooler in real life
